Fish Tacos with Lime Crema Espesa

The family raves over these fish tacos and they’re super-easy to make. They’re loaded with fresh and perfectly seasoned flaky fish. You can make the crema ahead of time to make it even easier and if you don’t have blackened seasoning you can probably make it with the recipe I provided below. I’m sure you already have all the spices in your pantry. Read through the whole recipe before you start. I looks difficult because of the ingredient list but is just as easy to put together as ground beef tacos. Don't skip the best fish taco sauce - this irresistible garlic lime crema espesa.
10 medium flour tortillas
2 pounds cod fillets (other white fish will work, flounder, tilapia, etc)
2 limes (one sliced for garnish and one juiced into the crema)
1 red onion, diced
1 jalapeno, diced
1/2 bag (8 oz.) shredded cole slaw
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro (stems removed)
2 avocados, diced
6 oz.crumbled feta
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3-4 tablespoons butter
Blackended Seasoning (to taste)
MAKE THE LIME CREMA:
In a medium bowl, mix together yogurt and mayonnaise. Gradually stir in fresh lime juice until consistency is slightly runny. Season with oregano, cumin, dill, cayenne, garlic powder and sriracha (optional).
MAKE BLACKENED SEASONING:
Ingredients for this are NOT included in the ingredient list.
3 tbsp paprika
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoons sea salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1) Preheat over to 375°F
2) Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper then place the fillets evenly on the parchment. In a small dish, melt the butter and brush it over all sides of the fillets, then evenly sprinkle blackened seasoning mix over all sides of the fillets.
3) Bake for 8 – 10 minutes or according to directions on package (don’t over-cook the fish) or until the fish easily flakes, cumble it apart with a fork and put it in a serving bowl or, if you're like us, just serve it straight off the sheet to save cleanup time.
Start with pieces of fish then add remaining ingredients finishing with a generous sprinkle of feta cheese and that awesome taco sauce! Serve with a fresh lime wedge to squeeze over tacos. Another option here is lightly frying or toasting the tortillas, you can do that while the oven is preheating.
